Hotel Villa Flori stands in a splendid panoramic position between Como and Cernobbio on the first basin of Lake Como. Facing directly on the water, the villa immersed in its centuries-old park offers a breathtaking view of the lake and the mountains that surround it. It is distant just a 10-minute drive from the city center and the Swiss border and just a few minutes walk from the village of Cernobbio. It is therefore a location offering many opportunities for easy excursions in the area.
The history of Villa Flori has distant roots: for over a century the villa was disputed by many Lombard nobles.
It was transformed into a hotel from the current property only in 1958 and then, completely renovated between 1989 and 1992.
The last renovation, completed in 2013 and which has seen a complete re-examination of the rooms and common areas, kept untouched the charm of the nineteenth century atmosphere: the careful restoration work enhances the lightness of the stucco and of the floral frescoes, the precious parquet floors and the details of antique furnishing accessories.
The original core of the building consisted of a bungalow villa that the Marquis Raimondi, well-known patriot from Como, would have prepared as a wedding gift for his eighteen-year-old daughter Giuseppina who on November 24, 1860 married General Garibaldi. The marriage that was for the good society of the time a sensational event lasted “the espace of a matin”, in fact the Hero of the Two Worlds, once discovered some very questionable episodes of the past of the young wife, left her on the spot. To date, Villa Flori keeps intact the room that housed the general at that time. More than a century has passed since this small diplomatic incident, but at Villa Flori you still breathe a romantic nineteenth-century atmosphere and you can enjoy a pleasant stay where everything is taken care of in every detail.
