“An energy never seen in the string quartet genre. The communication is so alive and so beautiful to watch, generously giving the audience access to the splendors of the score.” – Hubert Stoecklin of ClassiqueNews
Founded in 2018 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Quatuor Mona represents the unity of four international musical personalities, establishing immediately a presence in the french capital at such venues as the Grand Pierre Boulez Hall at the Philharmonie de Paris, the Studio 104 at Radio France, and a series of six concerts at the Salle Cortot.
The quartet recently performed alongside Emmanuel Pahud, Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Valentin Erben, Philippe Graffin and Marie-Joseph Jude, giving concerts at Edinburgh International Festival, Musée de l’Orangerie, Festival Musique à l’Empéri à Salon-de-Provence, Jérôme Pernoo’s Festival “Les Vacances de Monsieur Haydn”, Festival Debussy, Festival de Dinard, Orangerie de Sceaux and musée Jean-Jacques Henner.
In February of 2019, they have been named Artists in Residence at ProQuartet-CEMC in Paris, as well as the Foundation Villa Musica in Germany and the Escuela de Reina Sofia in Madrid with Günther Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet). Since their formation, the quartet has worked with musical pedagogues such as François Salque, Mathieu Herzog, Valentin Erben, Rainer Schmidt, Martin Beaver, Jérôme Pernoo and Luc-Marie Aguera.
Mesmerised by their talent after their debut at Musique à Flaine, the pianist and composer Abdel Rahman El Bacha dedicated his piece “Prélude à cordes” to the young quartet and invited them to perform in the 2019 Classissimo Festival in Brussels. The quartet was awarded with Prix de l’Orangerie de Sceaux and Prix du Méjan from their time at the Festival Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
