The Cheng Quartet was formed in 2015. All the four members are initially from Taiwan and currently studying at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Since September 2016, the quartet has been committed to the master course cooperation between the ‘’Netherlands String Quartet Academy’’ (NSKA) and Conservatorium van Amsterdam, which provides them with intense coaching by professors Marc Danel, Gilles Millet, Vlad Bogdanas, Yovan Markovitch, Stefan Metz, Dimitry Ferschtman and Kees Koelmans.
They are regularly attending masterclasses given by some of the most renowned string players worldwide, such as Gerhard Schulz (violinist of Alban Berg Quartet), Luc-Marie Aguera, (violinst of Ysaÿe Quartet), Vera Martinez (Cuarteto Casals), Eberhard Feltz (professor of Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin) or Debussy Quartet. Cheng Quartet has been invited to perform in Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Nationale Opera & Ballet, Leidse Schouwburg – Stadsgehoorzaal, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, Conservatoire de Paris, Casa da Musica Porto and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Lisboa, among others. In 2017, Cheng Quartet was named the new fellowship quartet-in-residence at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy and in 2018 the Quartet has been selected for taking part in Le Dimore del Quartetto project.
