Formed in 2019, the Atenea Quartet was born aiming to explore and bring alive the vast and fantastic world of the string quartet repertoire.
The Quartet has received training mainly from members of the Casals Quartet and also from musicians such as Heinz Holliger (in the Swiss Chamber Academy), Heime Müller (during the 2020’s Barcelona’s Biennial of String Quartets) and Donald Weilerstein (in the International Chamber Music Campus in Germany). Nowadays the quartet is continuing his musical development in the Hochschule für Musik Basel where three of their members are currently coursing Oficial Master programmes.
They have performed mainly in Catalonia and Spain in festivals such as the Matadepera Podium and the Greek Festival (collaborating with the Kronos Quartet). They have also played in venues such as Auditorium Lo Squero, Venice; Fundación Juan March, Madrid; Teatro Calderón of Valladolid. This year, the Quartet is part of the catalogue of Juventuts Musicals de Catalonia and Juventudes Musicales the España who held concerts around the Catalan and Spanish geography. At the same time, their international projection has taken them to several European cities. In October 2020, they opened the 16th Wissembourg International Music Festival, which had prestigious artists such as the Ébène Quartet.
In July 2021 the Quartet has performed in Venice in the Auditorium Lo Squero, for the cycle of concerts Archipelago, organized by Le Dimore del Quartetto. Also, the Quartet took part in the Delta Chamber Music Festival and Pòdium de Matadepera Festival, both in the 2021 summer, playing with other professional musicians.
The Quartet has won the 1st Prize in the DeltaChamber Music Competition 2019 and this year they have been awarded in the XIV Monsterrat Alavedra Chamber Music Competition with the 2nd prize.
