Le Dimore del Quartetto, member of the National Committee "Farulli 100", announces the International Congress "Paideia 2020: music and knowledge", which will be held on December 2-4 2020 entirely online, with simultaneous translation into Italian and English, and during which the specific scientific-cognitive dimension of music will be highlighted.
The conference will open with a day dedicated to "Music and Neuroscience", later deepening the topic "Music and Education" and closing the program with a day dedicated to "Music and Society".
"Farulli 100" brings a series of initiatives throughout 2020 to various cities in Italy and Europe - with Florence at the center - in places particularly significant for its artistic history with the aim of remembering the message and the tireless commitment of Maestro Piero Farulli (Florence, January 13th 1920 - Fiesole, September 2nd 2012). He was a dedicated messenger of the intrinsic values of training and teaching for the recognition of the "cultural value of music".

TALES IN THE FORM OF A QUARTET
The project Racconti in forma di Quartetto (“Tales in the form of a Quartet”), conceived by the Quartetto Felix, wants to enhance the Italian artistic, musical and landscape heritage with the support of Le Dimore del Quartetto and the Fondazione G. Cini. It will entangle the audio/video recording of four songs (never recorded on CD and one of which was composed especially for the occasion) by as many contemporary Italian composers at the Auditorium “Lo Squero” in Venice. The selected composers each have their own distinctive stylistic traits and cultural, territorial and social roots. They are the bearers of specific cultural ideas and values with marked evocative traits that well embody the Italian way of living in music.
Carlo Galante (1959) – Racconti in forma di Quartetto
Franco Mannino (1924 – 2005) – Ballata Drammatica op. 67
Giovanni Sollima (1962) – Quartetfiles
Gianvincenzo Cresta (1968) – Persa, lontano e tuttavia distinta
Event open to employees only

Le Dimore del Quartetto loves spreading the excellence of the Quartet all over the world and when it is Quartetto di Cremona disseminating it we are even happier to celebrate with them on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
The Quartetto di Cremona, an internationally recognized ambassador of the Italian quartet culture, on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary launches a new record with which it proposes a further tribute to Italy: Italian Postcards, in fact, stands as the next chapter to Italian Journey, a trip to discover the Italian masterpieces that began in 2012 through the works of Respighi, Puccini, Verdi and Boccherini. Just like a postcard, each piece is a small casket, a time capsule that collects, fixes and passes on the impressions and sounds experienced by composers visiting or dreaming of Italy.

THE PLAYLIST OF THE MONTH
This month we inaugurate our new column "The Playlist of the Month", with ten songs carefully selected for our community by quartets, trios and alumni of Le Dimore del Quartetto. This month we start from the playlist curated by the Quartetto di Cremona for its first 20 years.
"We are very happy, as testimonial of Le Dimore del Quartetto, to present the playlist of our first twenty years here in the December newsletter. Twenty years is undoubtedly a great achievement for a string quartet, but also an important starting point. If I think of all the artistic, musical and human experiences lived in all these years with my colleagues - and with many other musicians with whom we have been lucky enough to work - I can only be grateful to have said yes to Cristiano, our first violin, who twenty years ago asked me if I wanted to form a Quartet during a break from a concert with Salvatore Accardo's orchestra, somewhere in the world.
This playlist somehow represents our greatest passions. On the one hand, Italian music - of course - and on the other, Beethoven that has been accompanying us for so long. I can't help but leave some space also to the music of our last album, which contains both a tribute to Italy - through composers who have written from abroad inspired by this wonderful country - and our personal tribute to this land, that has given so much to art. A tribute to our 20 years, to the Quartet and to all the good things we wish for music."

LE DIMORE DEL QUARTETTO IN HUNGARY
FEHÉRVÁRCSURGÓ (UNGHERIA)
This stately home, which has just become part of Le Dimore del Quartetto network, was built in the neoclassical style in Fehérvárcsurgó (Hungary) between 1844 and 1850 by Count George Károlyi. When the current managers began to think about doing something in Károlyi Kastély, it was around 1992-1993 and the legal situation was very complicated. Thanks to a long-term loan from the Council of Europe Development Bank and the European Union Structural Funds, the Joseph Károlyi Foundation - founded in 1994 to assist the restoration and reuse of the structure - managed to renovate the building successfully.
Today it houses the European Cultural Meeting Center and is visited by more than 25,000 people a year.

"Thank you very much for including us in this extraordinary project. These three days in this gloomy atmosphere were like a breath of fresh air and as Francesca said we now have a project that exceeds our hopes. An indescribable thanks to Francesca for thinking at ProQuartet and having found together with Alice these exceptional partners, and a big thank you also to Alexandra for allowing this project to be valid before the eyes of the European Commission. Thanks to you we are in a cloud!"

"A new important milestone is the one reached in these hours by the Quartetto Felic which, in fact, was chosen by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation from among the thousands of projects that have joined the call entitled "Vivere all'Italiana in Musica" . [...] The Quartetto Felix presented the project called Racconti in forma di Quartetto (“Tales in the form of a Quartet”), conceived with the support of Le Dimore del Quartetto and the Fondazione Giorgio Cini to represent their idea of Italianness in music."

Extract of the interview with Simone Gramaglia, viola of the Quartetto di Cremona and artistic director of Le Dimore del Quartetto
"The last few years have seen a flourishing of quartets in Italy. "Some of the first order, renowned internationally like the Adorno, Lyskamm, Nous, Guadagnini, Eos... Every year from the Stauffer Academy of Cremona, where we were born and where we teach, about ten come out. And this is also thanks to the synergy started with Le Dimore del Quartetto, a network of historic houses and buildings among the most beautiful in Europe that host these young musicians for study stays. Together, we will briefly start with a European project of music and art workshops."

Extract of the interview with Simone Gramaglia, viola of the Quartetto di Cremona and artistic director of Le Dimore del Quartetto
"Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in music and who or what have been the most important influences on your musical life and career? Simone Gramaglia: [...] I must also mention Francesca Moncada di Paternò, a Sicilian princess, who always supported our quartet and then, enchanted by the string quartet world, founded the wonderful project “Le Dimore del Quartetto” to support young gifted string quartets from all over the world."
"How did we get to today's Quartets, with musicians who live off this repertoire and, at the same time, the prejudice that this is an elitist form of music? Has it always been like this? And, above all, how was the Quartet born and why is it so surprisingly linked to the thought, philosophy and social dimension of men? We decided to ask ourselves about all these aspects and we were surprised by what we discovered. We will try to tell you about it in this and two other articles that are the result of three videos-conferences produced by Le Dimore del Quartetto, accompanied by playlists and lists of readings that we have prepared for those wishing to deepen the fascinating history of the Quartet."
